What data should you put into an AI tool?
Only provide information the tool and your organization's policies permit. Security, retention, training, and contractual protections vary by provider and plan.
How to put this into practice
Identify sensitive customer, employee, financial, contractual, and proprietary material before sharing. Minimize details, de-identify responsibly, and use approved environments for protected information. Confirm actual product terms rather than assuming all AI tools handle data the same way.
Example
To brainstorm a customer-retention strategy, explain the scenario without disclosing the customer's identity or confidential agreement unless the tool is approved for it.
